Why PLA

PLA is short for polylactic acid. In the MC Life range, it is a plant-based material derived from corn-starch feedstock and used for selected single-use products.

From corn-derived feedstock to a finished product

At a high level, corn-starch-derived feedstock is processed into PLA resin pellets. Those pellets can then be formed into selected items such as clear cold-drink cups, lids and drinking straws.

MC Life manufactures its PLA drinking straws. Other product lines in the range follow their own sourcing and material specifications.

PLA and CPLA in the range

PLA appears in selected clear cold-drink formats and straws. CPLA is used for selected hot-drink lids. Each product page identifies its own material so buyers do not have to infer it from the category.

Plant-based is not a certificate

A plant-based origin does not by itself prove that a specific product is compostable or biodegradable under particular conditions. We do not treat those words as automatic claims; supporting certification documents must be verified before they are published.
